Growing a Sansevieria Laurentii Snake Plant Houseplant

Whether you are looking for an indoor plan, in your garden or on your balcony, Sansevierias, also known as Snake Plants, are some of the toughest plants you can find. These spiky beauties can put up with almost anything. They’re easy to grow.

There are approximately 70 different species of snake plants, all native to tropical and sub-tropical regions of Europe, Africa, and Asia. They are all evergreen and can grow anywhere from 8 inches to 12 feet high.

• Sansevieria Laurentii Snake Plant should dry out completely between waterings. The most common mistake is overwatering the Sanseveria plants. Even if the plant is placed in ample bright indirect light, you won’t need to water it more than once every ten days during the growing season in Spring or Summer. If the plant is placed under low-light and during the winter months, the plant can be watered once a month. Sansevieria are susceptible to root rot, so whether the plant is placed under low-light or direct sunlight, make sure that you are letting the soil thoroughly dry between waterings.

• Be sure not to let any water build up in the center of the leaves (where they form a cup) because this can lead to a mushy plant and ultimately rot.

• When finding a spot for your plant, make sure it is not placed in the direct path of any air vents and try to choose a spot that receives some level of indirect light. Make sure to keep them out of the direct, hot sun because they’ll burn in a heartbeat.

• These plants don’t mind the dry or stale air in our homes and offices. They’ll also do well in bathrooms where the humidity tends to be much higher. This is another versatility factor that gives this houseplant the label: “diehard.”

• Dust your Sansevieria plant often so the plant can photosynthesize efficiently and rotate it periodically to ensure even growth on all sides. When dusting the plant leaves, take the opportunity to inspect the undersides and keep an eye out for pests.
