Growing a Calathea Roseaopicta Houseplant

The Calathea Roseopicta Medallion, commonly known as the Medallion plant, is a visually pleasing addition and an excellent choice for enhancing indoor air quality – the perfect union of style and substance! This plant has gained popularity for its ability to thrive in low light conditions, making it perfect for those less-than-sunny corners of your home. The Calathea Roseopicta Medallion is also known for its air-purifying qualities. However, keep in mind that this beauty requires this plant requires more attention than your typical houseplant; it prefers moist soil and high humidity levels. So make sure to mist the leaves regularly or place them on a pebble-filled tray to maintain optimal moisture levels. Calathea Roseaopicta plants thrive in humid environments and prefer indirect lighting, and will grow best in a dim room.

• Place your Calathea Roseaopicta plants away from any open windows with direct sunlight.

• Provide ample humidity with a humidifier in the room, or by placing the potted plants on top of a saucer filled with pebbles.

• Keep your Calathea Roseaopicta soil moist but never overwater or let the plant sit in water.

• Feed your plant monthly in the spring, summer, and fall with a balanced plant food diluted to ½ the recommended strength.

• Don’t fertilize your Calathea Roseaopicta if the plant is not growing.

• Calathea plants enjoys the warmth, preferably between 65°-80°F (18.3°-26.7°C), and do not like temperatures below 55°-60°F (12.8°-15.6°C).

Calatheas are sensitive to water. Hard, soft water, fluoridated water, or water of poor quality causes the leaves to turn brown from leaf burn. The best way to water is to use distilled water, rainwater, or allow your tap water to sit out overnight before using it.

• Like many tropical indoor plants, the Calathea Roseaopicta prefers a humid spot. Brown edges indicate the air is too dry. Mist the leaves twice per week with room temperature water, take care not to mist them directly on the top of the leaves.

• Mist your Calathea from the bottom up, and higher overall humidity is preferred over misting.

• Hot temperatures cause the leaves to curl.

• It is not a good idea to repot newly acquired plants as they are already struggling to adapt to their new environment. It can take several months for plants to adapt.

When repotting, it’s best to keep the rootball of your Calathea Roseaopicta plant intact.

• If the roots don’t hold the soil in place, then it is not recommended to be repotted. The new pot should have draining holes and only one size larger.

• Use an extra perlite potting mix and add it to the bottom of the pot, around the sides, but never on op of the original rootball. After repotting, the plant will go longer than before between waterings, so the watering routine has to be adjusted accordingly.
